Hi everyone I hope you can help me find a Jane elizabeth Smith. I have been looking for months for her and can't find her. On my dads birth cert. it names her as Jane Elizabeth Lamb Nee Smith my granddad was Henry lamb b1855 York. On the 1891 census it states she was born Yorks and on the 1901 census it states Leeds. so I am not sure were she came from?. But all the Janes I have found so far from leeds have been married to someone else. Please help if you can it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Harold

Can't see a death for Eliza, so maybe they separated, if so that's going to make it very difficult to trace Jane E Smith as there will be no marriage certificate for her fathers name.

Looks like Eliza is still alive and kicking, so there wont be a marriage to Henry and Jane, that's going to make it extremely difficult;

Hi Dee, thank you for replying, that is the family and yes Henry was married before, and his new wife or partner goes under the name of Jane only, which has made it difficult to find her?

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 30 Mar 2009 16:10

Hi Harold,

Have you found Eva or Henry in 1901???

Were there any other children born to henry and jane after the 1891 census???

I think I found jane in 1901 as a boarder, does that sound right with your findings???

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 30 Mar 2009 16:37

Hi Harold,

I'm struggling to trace the Smith family prior and after 1881, I'll keep digging for awhile longer.

I just thought , however might be sheer coincedence, that a lady with a very similar name is living in close proximatey to Henry .....

BatMansDaughter Report 30 Mar 2009 17:16

I've been looking for the Smith family I found earlier, the father David is living with another lady and her 2 elder children, can't see Kate Snr, I may have found Elizabeth Jane Smith working as a servant close by in 1891, however it's definate................ so we still need to find a DEFINATE with your lady Smith.

Has the 1911 census thrown up any extra clues???

Hi Dee, I misread one of your messages, Henry Lamb my grandfather b1855 was reg. under the name Lamb.
My father Henry Lamb b1897 was reg. under Lamb. Hope this helps with the confusion of Lamb and Taylor

Marion Report 30 Mar 2009 17:31

On the 1911 census Jane or jane e has disappeared. found son henry 1897 with another Lamb john b1902 sent for his cert, and he is also Henry and Janes son. the boys were lodgers in Strensall yorks . Found 2 girls in the same area Alice and Elizabeth which I think is Eliza same age. Elizabeth was living with John taylor as his adobted Neice. Never found Sarah jane or Eva

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 30 Mar 2009 17:31

Looking at Elizabeth Jane Smith again, there was only 1 possible marriage for her.... I haven't been able to find our lady with the possible spouses.

It seems strange that on the 1881 census for this lady her complete name was written down, this is often a sign that she went by her middle name........... so we could be on the right track......... very similar name....similar dob......... same area as Henry Lamb in 1881, just frustrating that I can't tie it all in for you Harold.

Ooh Smiths don't you just love them....

The Jane E Smith born 1867 Leeds, parents John and Ann are still in Armley Leeds in 1881 and 1891, so I wouldn't think this is your lady.. and the Jane E Smith born 1870 Leeds is still with her parents in 1891..... so another 1 ruled out.

I can't find any census info for this birth;

Births Jun 1868
-------
SMITH Jane Elizabeth York 9d 57

I think this maybe the lady I've been following with the parents being David and Kate, and I'm hoping this is your Grandmother... however proving it is going to be difficult.
