Jessie was born in 1893 in Holinwood Lancashire, Her mother MAry A (Dixon)? was born in Halifax Yorkshire she married a Jackson I think possibly named Elias- they had four girls who I am aware of Jessie (as above), Sarah E (1891), Agnes (1895) and Elizabeth (1897) I am wondering if anyone has any information on this family?

Not likely that anyone reading actually has information, but it can be relatively easy to find!

Where are you getting the info you have -- e.g. when you say Jessie's mother was Mary A (Dixon?)?

This marriage?

Marriages Jun 1890
DIXON Mary Ann Oldham 8d 1006
Jackson Elias Oldham 8d 1006

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

Have you searched for the children's births so you can order a birth certificate and confirm the parents' names? Found the household in a census?

Searching at FreeBMD for the birth of a Jessie Jackson, 1891 to 1895, we get quite a few, but this is likely your girl:

Births Sep 1892
Jackson Jessie Oldham 8d 717

(You'd need to do that search and check the image to make sure the data is correctly transcribed, before ordering the certificate.)

Presumably you have her year of birth from a census; September 1892 would make her 8 in the 1901 census.

That info matches up with this birth for Agnes, e.g.:

Births Sep 1894
Jackson Agnes Oldham 8d 655

Ah, I see your problem. Mary Ann had been widowed by 1901:

Name: Jessie Jackson
Age: 8
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1893
Relation: Daughter
Mother's Name: Mary A
Gender: Female
Where born: Hollinwood, Lancashire, England

Civil Parish: Oldham

County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England

Registration district: Oldham
Sub-registration district: Oldham Below Town

Household schedule number: 227

Agnes Jackson 6
Elizabeth Jackson 4
Jessie Jackson 8
Mary A Jackson 28
Sarah E Jackson 10
William Porter 19
Mary Rodgers 41

And yet there's no matching death for Elias Jackson ...

Here he and Mary are in 1891:

I think it is possible that this might be the family in 1891 (although the age for Mary Ann is the same as in 1901 but this could be a mistake):-

Name: Mary Ann Jackson
Age: 28
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1863
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: James
Gender: Female
Where born: Halifax, Yorkshire, England

Civil Parish: Chadderton
Ecclesiastical parish: Christchurch
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England

Street address:

Occupation:

Condition as to marriage:

Education:

Employment status: View Image

Registration district: Oldham
Sub-registration district: Chadderton
ED, institution, or vessel: 22
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age

James Jackson 29
Mary Ann Jackson 28
Sarah Helen Jackson 1/12

Source Citation: Class: RG12; Piece: 3317; Folio 112; Page 15; GSU roll: 6098427.

Sarah Helen could be the Sarah E. (Ellen) on the 1901 census).

UPDATE - just realised that you think Mary Ann's husband was Elias, but the family I found has the husband as James.

Uh oh. Wrong people. Here are that 1891 Elias Jackson and Mary A, in 1901:

Name: Elias Jackson
Age: 30
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary A
Gender: Male
Where born: Oldham, Lancashire, England

Civil Parish: Bolton
Ecclesiastical parish: St James
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England

Registration district: Bolton
Sub-registration district: Little Bolton
ED, institution, or vessel: 11
Household schedule number: 85

Elias Jackson 30
Fred Jackson 9 months
Leah Jackson 10
Mary A Jackson 29
Mary A Jackson 3
Richard Jackson 7

So I'm thinking they're the ones who married in 1890, and your Mary Ann didn't marry Elias Jackson.

I think you could be right, Kathleen ... although I rather wish we weren't working at cross purposes here. I'll leave it to you now.

Sorry Kathryn - didn't mean to take over your searching, and I have to give the computer back to my son now anyway, so please don't give up searching because of me.
