How do you find out about family members after the 1911 census?
I am trying to find out about Arthur Johnsons family He was married to my aunt ethel kay i sent for the marrage certif HE MARRIED IN 1943 AGE 43 is fathert was Henry Johnson> Railway Porter (deceased). I have fou7nd a family on the 1911 census which could be them. 24 milner terrace hunslet leeds although i thought he was from bramly. he had a sister called Martha she is not on 1911 census so could of been born after can any one help

Yes so my father says,

arthur was married be for ethel kay and she died i wounder if martha could of been arthurs daughter not sister

Could Arthur have been born a bit later than you thought? I notice from the marriage to Ethel Kay that he has a middle initial "R".

I can't find a birh for a Martha Johnson with mother's maiden name Kay so I don't think Martha was Arthur's daughter.

I think it would help to buy Arthur's birth certificate so you would have both parent's names - then you could be more certain that you have the right people in the 1911 census.

Aren't we looking for a sister for Arthur called Martha? (not a daughter ). FMPast is playing up on me,but I think the Arthur Rowland you found looks likely. BUT-he won't be the 1911 person (John Henry and Clara's) as on the 1901 he's already born.

That didn't make sense to anyone but me,did it?

I can't find a death for Nellie that fits with her year of birth and before Arthur's second marriage.

Have you considered that at the time of the war when it was very difficult and expensive to get a divorce that a lot of people separated from their first spouse and married again bigamously. I'm not saying that this is what happened in this case but is something to think about as it happened quite a lot.

Yes Maureen - we are looking for a sister to Arthur. However Kay posted that she wondered if Martha could have been Arthur's daughter instead of his sister. That's why I was looking for a daughter.

Martha Ann johnson born 1898 died J/F/M 1901 Bramley.9b 221

Martha Johnson born 1902 died Leeds 1906.

The Arthur Rowland birth I found seems to be the only likely birth and in both marriages Arthur gives this middle initial.

I really think the only way forward is to buy this birth certificate so that you can be sure of the parent's names.
