Keith Report 7 Jan 2008 05:42

Thomas Johnston of Crawshalt, married a Janet Dobie, died in difficulties, and their eldest son John, went out as a Surgeon to St. Elizabeth Jamaica. He died in Dumfries c1795.
He left a daughter, Anne (or Susanna Jane Hope?) Johnston who married a John Campbell Moore, a Planter in Westmoreland Parish Jamaica.
John the Surgeon, had 5 brothers. Only James, a merchant in Maxwellton, left sons, and William, W.S.,left a daughter who married a physician in Ireland. Does anyone know of this family and/or the location of Crawshalt?

The dau of Anne and John Campbell Moore, Deborah Heath Moore is my GGG Grandmother.
The library at Dumfries has suggested that Crawshalt may be a farm called Crawthat in the Parish of Tundergarth.

If anyone is able to assist with my enquiry, I will be most appreciative.

Sincerely
Keith Briggs
