I really didnt think it would be that difficult to find the right Jane.

I still feel confident that THomas is likely to have married a Jane Lee - as it all fits nicely.

ie, Barrow upon Soar, is in the area where most of the family seem to have come from so far.
The name Lee is the only Jane on the same page in the marriage registry etc. and we know he marries a Jane.

However: Jane Hampstead DID marry a Thomas Fowkes from Leicester too!!!!
Will try & find out a bit more about her 'line'. just in case. (Quite enjoy a bit of detective work.)

just purchase Florries birth cert this will tell you her mothers maiden name then you can purchase the appropriate marriage cert

Gillian, I think if you check your time line you will see that the 1888 marriage is unlikely as you say you know for sure your Thomas and Jane were married on the 1881 census. Also, we don't know a Thomas married a Jane LEE, just that she was one of the brides on the same page in the register.

It was all very confusing, but having re=viewed all the info that we have gathered between us so far, I think:

There are TWO different marriages here.

1. Thomas Fowkes & Jane Hampstead

2. Thomas Fowkes & Jane Lee

Dont want to buy two marriage certs just yet as its an expensive way of eliminating someone. would help if I could find out a bit more info, will give it some thought....

I got the name Jane Hampstead born in Huntingdon / Cambs from a 'relative' who had Thomas Fowkes in her tree.

Given that most of the other 'Fowkes' that I have in my tree are from Barrow area - Jane Lee looks more likely!

Glad I didnt purchase the Jane Hampstead Marriage cert!! - on the other hand - she DID marry a Thomas Fowkes from Leicester!!!!

Very confusing! Need to uncover a few more facts..........
any chance of finding Jane Lee in an earlier census?

ps I know that MY Thomas & Jane lived in Pasture Lane Leicester in 1881 ( a few doodrs from Thomas' parents). any idea where pasture lane is - Barrow area perhaps?

there is a birth for Kathleen FOWKES registered at Barrow on Soar in Sept quarter 1896....found on Freebmd. There is also a marriage registered at Barrow in Dec quarter 1888 Thomas FOWKES and there is a Jane LEE on the same page...I looked on the 1901 census and Thomas's wife is Jane. Presumably you have Hampstead from some record
