Colette,

There is nothing jumping out at me regarding finding Florence on any of the later census, however there is a Sarah Ellen Holt on the 1901 in Cheshire with her family all born Hayfield. Could this perhaps be her mother?

This is a real puzzler isn't it? At the risk of giving you a nervous breakdown, just tell us how you know Sarah Ellen's birth year please?
All these questions aren't meant as criticisms, it's just that we have all been led up the wrong path by incorrect info from families and want to make sure you don't end up doing the same.

Colette,

Dont want to make you more downhearted, but the birth cert names does not mean they were "married".......what is written on the birth cert is only what the people concerned actually tell the registrar

My grandfather married three times and told quite significant porky pies on all three!

Colette - West Deby is not Derby, if this is the record you are looking at - very deceptive, it is actually Liverpool!

Janet,

Just read your question regarding sarah Ellens birthdate, which I had not noticed.......the Sarah Ellen on the 1901 census in Cheshire is birthdate 1885.........and born Hayfield.

Ann you just made me laugh, i know that sarah ellen is the correct one and born 1885. and she is my great gran.

as to if it is one of the many many holts - i believe so as the whole family moved from hayfield to stalybridge then derby with the father dying between 2 census. i think there was alot of shenanigans going off in them days xxx the plot thickens............

Colette

Colette Report 2 Aug 2009 23:30

Janet i know that west derby is not derby as i'm in derby myself xxxx

**Ann** Report 2 Aug 2009 23:36

Right...........so its Florence we are after then!! Have you thought of the possibility that Florence was not her birth first name, but as I call it her "living" name..........my mother was Eliz Alice, but all her life she referred to herself as Alice, as I am Eliz Ann, but never use the Eliz......just a thought.

I know you are stuck with looking for births 1901/2/3 for Florence, but there is one in 1907 registration district Ashton which covers Stayleybridge.
