Hi! My name is Diane Munro and I am trying to find out what happened to my Great Grandmother, Catherine Leech. She gave birth to my Grandmother in Pukekohe West on Feb 20th 1876. She was born in Newtownards, Ireland in 1856. She came out to New Zealand on the Immigrant ship 'Ganges'which arrived in Auckland 1865. The Passenger list has Alexander, Catherine, Ellen and another Ellen who must have been the 9month old baby that died on board. What happened to her after she gave birth to my Grandmother is a mystery. She gave birth out of wedlock and the stigma in those days must have been difficult. Perhaps she married later on. Any information would be appreciated. |
