Find Ancestors

Hi all the family are looking for the birth details of my Great grandfather Hector Hippolyte David and his parents. We don't have his birth records but do have all his records up until his death in London. His marriage certificate says he was born in burgundy France but no place and we have his father's name Hector David and his occupation carpenter but not his father's place of birth and nothing for his mother.

I have had to apply to France for my uncles birth details and the problem there is that if you don't know exactly where the birth registration is, it is almost impossible to get any information. We have hit a wall and need any help we can get to get through, round or over it. Any ideas on how to get around or over it would help greatly.

His naval records are available to download on the documentsonline site, if you don't already have them. It costs £3-50. The index gives birthplace as Burgundy, France, but don't know whether the document itself might be more specific!
