LYNCH FROM COOTEHILL CO CAVAN Matthew Lynch born Cootehill about 1817 married Ellen Duffy. Sometime between 1860 and 1875 Matthew moved to Glasgow Scotland He ws listed in 1881 census as retired publican but we think he was a 'grog' seller in Cootehill Ellen had died before 1875. Two known daughters Annie and Elizabeth left home and went to NZ Elizabeth married in 1871 to a police sargeant James O'Malley had one living daughter at least one stillborn child in Hokitika and then vanished Annie married John Cairns in Glasgow 1875 and with one son Francis came to NZ in 1878- presumably because her sister was in Hokitika. A baby girl Mary Ellen ws born in 1878 in Hokitika and then John Cairns disappeared. Annie Lynch married for a 2nd time in 1902 to a man much younger than herself and her first husband was listed as having died 1896.and she died the following year. I would love to contact any connections to other children of Matthew Lynch and Ellen Duffy. Jill |
