Robert,

I have seen that 1891 census record, but there doesnt seem to be any other information. How do i link her to Jonathan Bruce?

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 28 May 2008 18:37

I've just tried an IGI search for you but nothing found on your Mabel. Do you know if there is a Caribbean connection?

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 28 May 2008 18:40

There are also a lot of Walronds in Devon and Somerset on the IGI

Christopher

Christopher Report 28 May 2008 18:42

The problem is that i dont know her birth place. There must be details somewhere of her marriage to Jonathan Bruce

Christopher

Christopher Report 28 May 2008 18:51

Mabels huband Jonathan Bruce was killed in action in 1914.

So is walrond a middle name, and Trengrouse the last name ?

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 28 May 2008 18:59

I would say so. Trengrouse is a West Country sounding name and it is possible that her parents came from there. Along with all the Walronds in that area you might find that her mother's maiden name was Walrond.

the Mabel Walrond on 1891 census may be a mistranscription or enumerator error.
Mabel Walrond Trengrouse shows on 1881 & 1901 census b 1880 - also birth reg (see freebmd)

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 28 May 2008 19:11

just realised 1881 & 1891 have different parents
have you got the birth cert of one of her children - it would confirm her name

Christopher

Christopher Report 28 May 2008 19:13

It mentions Eliza Walrond who I imagine must be Mabel Trengrouses grand mother on her mothers side.

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 28 May 2008 19:25

Christopher

If you look at the 1901 census you will see that Eliza B Walrond c1822 is described as 'mother-in-law'.

Mabel's father, Henry Trengrouse c1842 was born in Helston, Cornwall. So it looks as if my thoughts about the West Country link are confirmed

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 28 May 2008 19:29

By the way, yet another mistranscription on Ancestry: your Mabel was born in Putney - there is no such place as Patney!

Christopher

Christopher Report 28 May 2008 19:57

The husband of Eliza B. Walrond never seems to be mentioned . Eliza B. always seems to mentioned as HEAD on all the censuses. There is a death index showing Eliza died in 1904 and the B stands for Bell.
