Trying to find relations of John (Jack} Marks born 1899 in Cardiff. Married Florence Cawley. Grandfathers name was Thomas Marks born in 1868 in Cardiff.Married Lillian Fowler. Jack had two sisters called Joan and Anne. Thomas was a groomsman in St Fagans. Lived mostly in Canton, Cardiff. Jack was a painter and decorator.

Could this be them?

Marriages Mar 1925
Cawley Florence Marks Cardiff 11a 412
Marks John Cawley Cardiff 11a 412

You can do these searches yourself for free at

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

-- I searched for

marriages
surname "marks" (because I didn't know whether Jack was a nickname)
who married given name "florence"
anywhere
anytime from 1915 to 1930.

There is a long list of possibilities, but John in Cardiff looks like a good chance of being the one.

You can then search for

births
surname: marks
mother's surname: cawley
anywhere
anytime starting 1925

to find their children's names.

At present, you won't find anything, because births that late have not yet been transcribed. You can search at a site (like Ancestry, for a fee) where you can locate the pages of the GRO index on which Marks would appear in each year, and then read the four pages for each year, looking for births with surname Marks and mother's name Cawley. Or you could wait until the transcriptions come on line!

Then you could do the same to find the children's marriages ... and their children ...

I'm assuming, of course, that you don't know his children's names already.

fyi, another possible marriage in Cardiff -- if Jack was a nickname not related to his actual name -- is:

Marriages Mar 1923
Franks Florence M Marks Cardiff 11a 519
Marks Frederick H Franks Cardiff 11a 519

Or that could be a brother. Or no relation at all!

Am a bit confused with your reply, are you relation to Marks. Are you diistant relation to Jack or Florence. Already know names of children. Florence had a brother called Albert and a sister who`s name we don`t know.

Ah, everybody's confused. ;)

You thought you were posting in the Marks board.

But the Marks board doesn't really exist. It's a virtual board. You really posted in the "trying to find" board. That's where I am!

Click on "Community" up top of your screen.

Then click on "Trying to Find" over on the left of your screen.

Then look at the list -- and there's your post! Out in the middle of nowhere with its bare face hanging out. ;)

And there you'll see posts from many people who thought they were posting on the Smith board, or the Jones board, and really they too were posting on the big Trying to Find board. It's just a little joke that GR decided to play a few weeks ago.

It does mean that people who are happy to fritter away our time helping complete strangers find answers to their questions will see more people's questions and be willing/able to help them find answers, even if there's nothing in it for them.

Not even "thanks", most of the time.

If you take a look at the post on the "Trying to Find" board that says

To All Trying to Find Posters - PLEASE READ

it may become clearer.
