Do you have the childrens names? If so, it would be best to find the childs birth. You can then buy the cert for £7 from GRO online which will give the mothers full maiden name. Then you could find the marriage ref and buy the marriage cert. which will give both fathers names and other useful details to go back a further generation.

Have you one of the kids names - your direct ancestor? as that cert would be most useful for you?
