I have lost site of my family between 1881 and 1901. I think it is possible that my Grandma Sarah and her brother William were made orphan's. They may have been placed in a workhouse or orphanage. Can anyone please tell me where I can get a list of all the Orphanages in Birmingham during this time with a list of all their inmates. Thank you Julie

Hi Julie
I don't know whether you already know but half the hospitals in Birmingham used to be work houses
Sandwell (westbrom)
City Road (dudley road/western road)
Selly oak
if you go on the internet and search for workhouses in Birmingham you can pick which areas and some of them do have the lists of people who were there.
Also the census's will say inmates on them.
Some of my family died in the workhouses, its so sad.
I hope this has helped good luck.
