Douglas Report 11 Jun 2007 14:53

I'm trying to establish whether my gGrandfather, JOSEPH NEWEY, born 1846 in Dudley, was knighted by Queen Victoria either side of 1900. He was a famous engineer in South Africa, building most of the Bridges in the old Cape Colony between 1874 and 1904 (approx.) Rose up the ladder to head the Works Dept of the Cape Colony and retired to farm sheep in the Eastern Cape Colony on a farm he bought upon retirement. Died 1907.
