Trying to find Peter Nicholls, born c1787 in Sudbury, Suffolk on the 1841 Census.

I am 90%+ sure I have found him on the 1851 and 1861 Censuses - occupation Barge Builder (Lots of the Sudbury Nicholls were Barge Builders). He is now living in London in Southwark.

My searches have only found Peter Nicholls Tea Dealer in Marylebone in 1841.

Fairthorn - many thanks

This certainly looks like my Peter Nicholls.

Interesting that among the neighbours there is another Barge Builder and several Sawyers.

All I need now is to find some way of tracking this Peter Nicholls back in time to establish his birthplace; note he was not born in Surrey, but his daughter Caroline was.

Any thoughts o how I might proceed.

You have found the person I am hoping is my Peter living in London in 1841.

I have found details of a Peter married to Sarah (unknown surname) having children in Sudbury and in Southwark. The Peter on the 1841 census is married to Mary.

Confusingly 'both' Peters have a daughter called Caroline. could it be that the 'first' Caroline died, along with Sarah - if Peter then married Mary and had daughters would he name one Caroline. In fact Peter & Mary had 3 daughters ( 2 of whom died) not called Caroline and then after Amelia survived had another daughter and she was called Caroline.

Frustrating to seem to be so close and YET so far
