Hi,
I am trying to find out any info i can about a Richard Bate OLFORD - he was born Sept 1866 in St Austell Cornwall, and he married a Mary Annie MAY in Dec 1891 in St Austell, i found that out this morning.
It may be me but i can't seem to find any info on any Census after he married, he may have been at sea, so i have been told.
I have not looked for any Census before he married yet, i will do that now !!!!!!
Many thanks
Sally
p.s.
I have now found a photo of Richard online, it says he was killed on HMS Hermione in 1903, i have looked but can't find how he died or where the ship was in 1903.
I am sure someone can help me !!!!!!!!!
Thanks again

Thanks Lindsay,

Oh well the names on the death info are Charles E and Elizabeth, so it looks like poor Richard died in Australia.
I wonder if there is any more info available.

I think you need to buy the marriage or birth cert to see what his father's name was,

Hi to all who helped me with Richard.
I have his marriage cert in front of me so i now know his Father was a Henry, he was a farmer.
Richard was 25 years in Dec 1891on marriage cert - as was Mary Anne MAY his wife, Saint Austell Register Office was the venue, do Register Offices have any extra info?
Richard was a Sailor in the Royal Navy, so maybe he was going to sea faster than he thought or she was expecting - i will look into that. !!!!
Thanks again

Hi,
I am still trying to find the death of Richard Bate OLFORD, although the spelling could be ALFORD or even ALFERD i guess. !!!!!
I have the wedding cert in front of me and Richard's Fathers name was Henry.
Richard was 25 when he married in 1891,and born in Cornwall. He was a Sailor in the Royal Navy, by 1911 he had died, but i can't find a death entry that matches up, unless of course he just ended up somewhere else.
Any help would be great.
Many thanks
Sally

I feel you need to find Naval records to see where he served.not sure if its Greenwich or National archives

Sally

Sally Report 9 Feb 2011 16:09

Thanks Linsey, i have found out a bit more now.
Richard was in the Royal Navy and was in the Boer War, i have found his Regimental Number was 20539, he had a medal, the number of that was 4668, he was a Petty Officer 1st Class.
I see by his records he was on The Pelorus.
I am still looking for his death, i can never seem to find my way round The Nat Archives, but i will have a look again !!!!!!

Sally
