Looking for a death for Samuel.

Ive tracked him across all the (England) census from 1841 right up to 1891 but cannot find either him or his wife Susanna in 1901. Both were alive in 1891, Samuel aged 81 and Susanna aged 80.

They had their son John with them on every census and in 1871 and 1881 had grandsons Charles and John jnr with them too. By 1891 they were just a couple.

(I can give you the source citations if this makes it easier)

I cannot find a marriage at the moment for them either so I do not have any previous history or a maiden name for Susanna.

Any help would be much appreciated.
a) with the death of both Samuel and Susanna
b) with the maiden name
c) who was John's wife and why is she not on the census with him?
d) anything else you can help me with

thank you

Julie

PS, have discoverd John was not married. So i wonder who all the children belong to?

In FREEBMD.com

In the 1871 & 1881 John is shown as unmarried, so could the grandsons be the offspring of a sibling of John?

Julie

Julie Report 11 Aug 2008 13:48

Horrey - didnt try that but very possible! Fits with the age doesnt it? Gives me another search perameter too.

Kendo - there were only three boys, John, George and Samuel. If not Johns. they must be George's as Samuel would only have been 10 when grandson Charles was born.

Anyone had any luck with the marriage yet?

Also trying to find out what happened to Ann, Samuel and Suanna's daughter born in 1833c. She is on the 1841 census as an 8 year old but i cannot find her after that.

wondering if the first grandson William Begg, is Ann's child - he was born in 1853, she died in 1854. Cant find a birth for him either.....

I would guess you need someone to look up parish registers for you as they would probably have married before civil registration

This is the 1851 census, There is the possibility that the grandsons were the children of the Daughter Susannah.

Ann's death?

Deaths Mar 1854
Orrey Ann Boston 7a 251

Actually thats a thought. I just assumed because the younger two are Orreys that they would be sons of the sons. I know that the daughter Sarah had a child in the workhouse (Sarah is my GGgrandmother) so I guess its quite possible that her sisters may have also been, shall we say, wayward?

Im having trouble tracking George after the 1861 census. Cant find a marriage but found a George in service in Hampshire. Unlikely but possible I suppose.

I thought that might the correct death Lancs Ann. would explain why little William was with his grandparents. Wonder where his dad is? (Or who, in fact!)

do we all agree that Charles and John jnr are probably Susanna jnr's children?

Cant be Mary's. She isnt on the 1851 census as a 14 year old but she seems to have a baby sister with the same name. Two possible deaths for Mary in 1845 and 1846.

do you have these - parents Samuel & Susan

1. SARAH - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 15 JUL 1848 Little Steeping, Lincoln, England

2. GEORGE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 15 JUL 1848 Little Steeping, Lincoln, England

Yes, Sarah was actually born about two years earlier. George is the next sibling along (according the census) so they must have been christened together. Gives me a church though, so thats useful thank you.

Where did you find them? I cant find anything I want today!

Found a birth for John jnr in 1866 - Horncastle.

Ive checked the maps and all the birth places and christening places are really close together. I always think thats encouraging!

Cant find Charles though
