Hello all

Can anyone help me. My Grandads brother Peter Reid has vanished off the records. He is on the 1891 census in Stirling with his mum, dad, brothers and sisters, but he is not on the 1901 census.

(Peter Reid born 04/10/1880, tibbermore Perthshire)

Family roumor is he died during the war. I have always assumed everyone meant WW1, however, i now think it more likely to be the second boar war.

Can anyone help me with where to start looking for him.

thanks

Carol

It looks like he was indeed in the Anglo-Boer war:

Reid, Peter C. 37092, Trooper 1st Scottish Horse

The Men of the Imperial Yeomanry, Lovats Scouts and Scottish Horse in the Boer War of 1899 to 1902. This is a complete list extracted from my book on this subject - here I give the names, ranks and numbers, as well as units of the nearly 40,000 men who fought with these units in this war.
Names are listed alphabetically by surname..

Whether he died ... I've been trying to figure out how find that out about somebody myself. ;)

Kevin Asplin has added to his site since I first saw it:

Army Deaths 1901-05

Reid, Peter, 21, Cairo, 1901, 467

It sounds like it could be him.
