Jennifer Report 30 Nov 2007 19:32

I am trying to find any information on Leslie Archibald Williams i think he could have possible been born 1902 Brentford ....but i am awaiting a birth cert to confirm that .
I know he married Emily Eleanor Mary Dicker in Battle 1935 (EMILY is believed to be deceased, no date on this )
and i know he was in the Marines in 1945 and lived at park street luton .(I THINK HE SEPARATED FROM EMILY
he had a son Peter Williams born Luton (BORN 13 JAN 1945) .HE COULD HAVE HAD MORE CHILDREN, i believe there could be a sylvia and a barry or brian . I have looked on the free bmd wedsite but come up with nothing .

ANY INFORMATION OR ADVICE ON WHERE TO GO FROM HERE WILL BE TRUELY APPREICATED

Please could anyone help me ....it will be so greatly appriecated as i am now finding out time is of essence.

I wonder if this is Emily

Births Sep 1915
Dicker Emily E M ..Aungier ..Dover 2a 1921

Do you think they were about the same age...or could this be her?

You need a copy of their marriage to check their ages and their fathers' names.

Jennifer -- is it him / his children/grandchildren you are looking for?

Time would not likely be of the essence if you're looking for his grandchildren. ;)

If it's his children you want to confirm, there's little else for it but to spend a couple of hours wading through the untranscribed pages of the GRO. The easiest way to do that is at Ancestry, where you can get a free 14-day trial subscription.

FreeBMD hasn't transcribed the period in question, so even if there are births, you won't find them there.

You have to look at the page for each quarter on which the surname Williams is recorded (could well mean more than one page for each quarter, for a common surname), and look down the list for births where the mother's surname was Dicker. That sounds uncommon enough ... well actually, there were two Williams-Dicker marriages in 1915, so the combo isn't that uncommon I guess. But they'd be possibles, if you found any, especially in the same place as the known child.

I'd think it's almost certain that the birth Gwyn copied is your Emily -- to be marrying the first time in 1935 and having a child in 1945, she was likely younger than her husband born 1902.

There's only one death post-1984 (deaths before that aren't searchable by personal info) that could be your Emily, it seems -- in any event, the one whose birth was registered Q3 1915 -- a birthdate within that range, and not with middle names that don't match up, in the case of others born around then:

Emily Williams
born 7 Jun 1915
died Jan 1997
age 81
Liverpool Lancashire

If you think that is her, the death cert (or newspaper obituary that you might find in a library) might give info about family members.

Just wanted to add to this post in case anyone happens by and wants to help out with looking for other possible Williams-Dicker births.

The *other* Williams-Dicker couple is mentioned in several threads at GR, e.g.:
http://genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=374130

"Joseph Williams.
He was possibly born in Hereford c 1910 and married Emily Margret Dicker.
They had four girls Gwendaline, Margret, Moreen and Shirley."

So we know that those births were *not* to Jennifer's Williams-Dicker couple.

I am looking for any link to Peter Anthony Williams via his siblings or father Leslie Archibald Williams

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Dec 2007 22:32

Okay, Jennifer -- so what did you think about the suggestions offered?

If you want to find out whether Leslie Archibald Williams and Emily Eleanor Mary Dicker had more children, you're going to have to search through the GRO looking for Williams children with mother Dicker (knowing that the children Gwendaline, Margret, Moreen and Shirley were *not* theirs, as I found by searching the boards here).

If you want to know whether the Emily Williams born 7 Jun 1915 who died Jan 1997is the Emily in question, if that would help you at all, you're going to have to order the death cert and see what info it has.

If you want to know whether Leslie Archibald Williams had more children with someone other than Emily, you're going to have to search through the GRO, for the years 1935 to 1955, say, looking for children with the given names you have in mind, and order their birth certs to confirm, and then look for their marriages, and then look for children ... Was Peter Emily's child, for starters? Do you know, and if not, have you found his birth and got a birth certificate?

(Edit: I did check that one, since there was a name and exact DOB, and Peter's mother was Dicker.)

Those are all things that you can do yourself, by taking out a trial subscription or short-term subscription at Ancestry, for instance:

http://www.ancestry.co.uk

It's something that would take quite a while for someone to do on your behalf, and it would be better for you to do it anyway, since you know what you're looking for.

It still is completely unclear what you're looking for anyway:

"I am looking for any link to Peter Anthony Williams via his siblings or father Leslie Archibald Williams"

-- link of *what/whom* to Peter Anthony Williams? If no one knows that, no one has any idea what to do to help you in the first place.

Other than doing the things that have been suggested, I guess you'll just have to hope that someone comes by here who knows these people and sees your post ...

Okay i will put all my cards on the table ....

i am trying to find Peter Anthony Williams Born 13th Jan 1945 in Luton he is the main person i am trying to find . Peter is my father and i have not seen him since i was 5yrs old they was a very bitter custody battle which peter won then lost , this caused him to have a mental breakdown.

.Time is moving on now and although i have always lived in hope of finding him i can appriecate that he may have a new family, live in a different country, may be ill or in prision .......i know that my one and only ambition may not ever happen and i could be too late . so i thought i would try to find his close relatives in the hope they could let me know how he is or what he was like.

Basically i believe even though he has not played a big part in my life , he has always been in my thoughts and if i am too late i think this man my dad deserves my respect for fighting for me as a child and for bringing me into this world.

Thanks Jennifer -- didn't mean to pry, or request such a personal account -- but on the other hand it does help if people understand how important the search is to you, and certainly you have given an idea of your very understandable and laudable feelings.

(Requests for information to find "a link to" someone here are sometimes just kinda idle genealogical inquiries, and amount to asking someone else to do things that a person can perfectly well do themselves! As you can see here, that was the automatic interpretation of your query -- that you wanted to find out about his family history.)

Were Peter and your mother married/divorced? If the divorce came later than the separation, the court papers might have information about where he was living at the time.

Peter himself is not so very old -- only a few years older than me, and I'm not dead yet. You probably have a good chance of finding him. The problem is that his name is so very common.

I probably can't make any suggestions other than what I have -- but when you get Leslie's birth cert, be sure to post the info here.

It might then be possible to identify Leslie's death, so that you could get the death certificate and try to find a published obituary, hoping that it would have info about Peter.

What you could add is where Peter was living when you last had information about him.

Have you used Quick Search at the top of the page ?

There is a tree belonging to 'Frank' which has your Peter Anthony Williams on it.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 6 Dec 2007 15:52

Y'know, I keep telling myself to remember to just do a tree search when I read a query ... and I keep forgetting what I tell myself ...

In this case, it's because for most of the thread it wasn't clear that it was Peter that Jennifer was looking for. ;)

Frank also has Peter's mother Emily Dicker.

There is also a Barry who has a Barry born 1949 Luton.

And surprisingly, a Peter who has Frank born 1947 in Luton (although that may be the Peter born 1950).

There are four people with the Emily Dicker born in Kent in 1910. I wonder, Jennifer, whether you're certain that your Emily is the one born in Kent in 1915.

Jennifer may know those people already, but if not, certainly worth contacts.
