I'd better go now, some guy in a red suit is coming up the path.

Brilliant thanks for that. Edward D Pitman was my G.Grandfather. And James and Sarah were his parents. I suppose I will have to wait for the 2011 census to find out anything about the family my grandfather was also an Edward born Toxteth LIverpool 1891 I have his birth certificate (my grandfather.) Alas he is not with us now neither is my father so have no one to ask. Appreciate your help. Will try now to find James Parents. Hope you had a great xmas and that the man in the red suit left you something.

Hi Linda,
Re:- The Butchers of Westonzoyland
Heres a bit more, pure guesswork but may be worth checking out. I think this may be James' family.
1841 Census
James Pitman b1796 Weston Zoyland Occ:Butcher Rebecca b1801 Weston Zoyland Elizabeth Pitman b1821 Weston Zoyland Alford Pitman b1826 Weston Zoyland Frederick Pitman b1826 Weston Zoyland Emma Pitman b1828 Weston Zoyland EDWIN Pitman b1830 Weston Zoyland JAMES Pitman b1832 Weston Zoyland Eliza Pitman b1837 Weston Zoyland Ellen Pitman b1837 Weston Zoyland
Address: Front Street.
Remember Walter, living in Alderson Road, Wavertree, Liverpool?... Could he be the son of EDWIN mentioned above?
1861 Census EDWIN Pitman (Head) b1830 Weston Zoyland :Occ: Butcher Elizabeth Pitman (wife) b1830 Weston Zoyland, Occ: Market woman Frederick J, Pitman b1853 Weston Zoyland Frank Pitman b1855 Weston Zoyland WALTER Pitman b1856 Weston Zoyland Wilfred Pitman b1858 Weston Zoyland Eliza Pitman b1860 Weston Zoyland
Now to completely confuse matters, in 1851 Job Pitman, also a butcher, was living next door to James in Front Street, Westonzoyland, he apparently emigrated to Illinois U.S.A. in 1871:—

Westonzoyland only had a population of around 800/900 in the mid-1800's, surely these Pitman's, all in the butchery trade, must all be related? Good luck in your searches, feralcat
