In the 1901 census it looks like his parents are George and Elizabeth. Good luck Irene

Thanks for your replies! I don't know of a Kings Norton connection, but the names match very well - I think he was John Thomas and she was Clara Annie.
I shall have to investigate further.
I know it's a bit of a cheek, but if Sue or Irene have any of their children's names that would clinch it - I know a few, including Alfred and George.
Again, many thanks!
Jan
PS Irene - how did you access 1901 census? I didn't think this was available.

Sue - you may be right! I've had another look at my information, and there was an Alice and an Elsie - no Eunice tho - anyway, Birkrnhead is about 90 miles away I think! I see you are in Australia. How are you accessing all this stuff? Thanks you so much.

Sue - you posted again while I was replying! The John Myatt above was definitely "mine" as his parents were George and Elizabeth. Still don't know if he's the same person who married Clara Smith in Kings Norton, but you really have given me something more to work with. Cheers!

Hi Jan

I have a subscription to Ancestry UK .
On the 1901 census you will see that the reg district for Smethwick is Kings Norton.

Cheers Sue:)

Sue - thanks again! I really didn't imagine that the registration for Smethwick would be Kings Norton as they are so far apart and I believe they have never been in the same county. Well, there you go.
I think the marriage of Thomas and clara must be the one I'm after, I just need to test it out a bit more.
I do appreciate your help.

PS just out of interest, my Dad's cousin apparently moved to Oz after WW1. Name of Derek Bailey. I expect you know all about him! LOL.
