Hi My Great Grandfather was Henry Springett, he was southern heavyweight amatuer boxing champion, least that's what I was told as a yougster. He was born in 1888 in Maidstone. I'm trying to find ancestors of David Springett, b 1799 monchelsea, Kent, a forefather of Henry. I believe his mothers name was Abigail. I have David's decendants upto date but finding information from 1799 and back is proving difficult particularly as I now live in Scotland. Does anyone have any information which will help me dig further back?

Hi Felicity

David Springett 1799 was my 4th great grandfather, David was AbigailĀ“s illegitimate son. Records show that she took a bastardy case out against a James Parker, Soldier. She married William Baker a year later but David retained his mothers maiden name. Died 1855 while walking with a friend. In 1838 his occupation is given as an agricultural labourer. Cause of death was given as heart disease. He was buried 29.08.1855 in Loose Kent. Note, the date on his tombstone is 11.8.1855 but his death certificate says 14.8.1855.
Hope this is of some help
