Stewarts of Mid Calder, Midlothian (near Edinburgh, also Edinburgh Canongate Church): my family go back to the 1600s there, and are simply confusing me totally. Possibly descendents of Mungo Stewart (1610) himself presumed a descendant of King James II? Also possibly the same family as the Barons Blantyre. Furthest back is John Stewart m Helen Paul in Edinburgh 1758; their sons were James, John, Robert. Robert married Magdalen Blair and had John, James, Robert. Robert married Barbara Campbell and had Robert, Alexander, Henry, William, John, Andrew, Thomas and Magdalen Lundin Stewart. Alexander married Barbara Penman, Robert married (1) Agnes Hamilton, by whom he had James Stewart (1862) and (3) Sarah McBirnie by whom he had 6 sons. |
