The Imperial War Museum should be able to help you. They have a website, and there may be an address for you to email any questions.
Good luck,
Liz

You mean people were wearing medals when the WW2 war was still on?

Well I guess some of them may have had medals from WW1 that they were wearing? But normally they would just have the bands sewed on their uniforms rather than the whole caboodle I believe. I seem to remember my dad telling me that when he went AWOL the day peace was declared and he was down in Cornwall being demobbed but told they wouldnt get leave for weeks! he made his way back to London to see my mum and when the Military Police came for him the next day Im sure he said they removed his medals at the local barracks and the Officer in Charge was very angry and made the sergeant replace them on dads uniform. So, may be they did get them issued during the war.
