Just to say if you are looking for Leslie George Tompkins on Ancestry complete bmds. The records are not complete. or are mistranscribed. I have a definate marriage(seen wedding photo's) which is on the local reg office site but not on Ancestry.Marriage 1940.

Perhaps all years are not transcribed yet.

It will pay you Graham to enquire at the local reg.office where your father should be registered.

I have searched the actual indexes (?indices!!?) for Leslie George Tompkins and Ingram for 1937 and a couple of years either side and cannot find (also for Francis Tompkins in 1944)

Sorry Graham.

I dont understand what you mean by"Have you seen photo's"

The info I gave is repeating what Lindsay found for you.
This is the marriage of Louisa Ingram and Sidney Tompkins.

To go back another generation you need to get that marriage cert from GRO (google if you dont know what GRO is)using the reference no I have given you.

The marriage cert will give both ages, plus both fathers names and occupations.

P.S.
Just realise Graham from reading this thread. When I said I had seen the wedding photo. I was referring to my aunts wedding NOT Sidney Tompkins and Louisa Ingram.

Once again I think you will need to go to the local reg office where your father was born to get his birth cert as not found on Ancestry
