Jack

This thread is more than 12 years old and I doubt that anyone is still checking it. You could try to contact any of the people who have added to the thread by clicking on their name and sending a private message. If they still have the same email address that they registered with Genes then they will get your message, but there is nothing to say they definitely will.

Good evening,

Im not sure if anyone will read this message.

However, I am researching the Andre family tree. My grandmothers maiden name was Andre which died out in her line after her death. However, myself, my son, my uncle and my cousin all have it as our middle name!

I have done quite a bit of research for Pharion. As well as a linguist he also owned a tobacco shop later in life!

I would also be quite interested in finding out more about his life in France and who his parents were. Did anyone manage to find any more information?

Thanks,
Jack

Thanks for your interest Cathy.

In fact the St Phorien born in 1863 is the grandson of the one I'm looking for. I've tried Googling without success, both French and English sites. To find out anything in France I need the place of birth, which I don't have.

I'd also found the entry on the Andre Family forum, which is very interesting. Unfortunately it was posted a long time ago and I haven't been able to contact Keith Watford, who's obviously looking for the same information as I am.

I have a name for St Phorien's father from his marriage certificate, and names of his brothers (I think) but would love to find out whether he was born in France and whether the army stories are true.

Barbara Report 13 Mar 2008 14:15

I've been researching my ancestor St Phorien Andre (1780 - 1849). I can trace my family links back to him, but the earliest reference I can find is that he lived in Hammersmith from about 1832, working as a teacher of French and Spanish. Unfortunately I can't trace any of his background before that, although he had at least 7 children and was married twice (his marriage certificate to Mary Ann in 1845 shows him as a widower).
Family stories suggest that he was born in France and fought in the French army with Napoleon, but I can't find anything to substantiate this.
Any help would be welcome.
Barbara
