Thanks for the update Scobby, if you do as Christine suggests and get the marriage cert, this should also give his occupation and if he was in the army possibly his Army number .We may then find Army Records
You can order a cert. from this offical site
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ they cost £7 using the marriage details i posted

Hi Linda,

It looks as if that marriage in Chester is the correct one, so if you get that it will give both Henrietta and Williams ages and father's names.

Pleased that we have got somewhere at last, thanks to Janice finding John Gordon.

I still think you need to get the birth cert of Les 1923 to be sure of the parents names then perhaps we can find the marriage and work back from there.

There was also the William HB Phillips registered in Bridlington Jun 1918 so I wonder if he belongs to them also.

Well done Janice, you're the same as me don't like to give up.

I think Linda is going to have to buy the birth cert of Leslie to find the parents names to be able to trace back further.

If all the names are from a photo as she said, maybe they are not all siblings but some cousins, you never know.

I think we are going to need some more facts to be able to get anywhere with this family.
You said your MIL was still alive, does she have a copy of her marriage cert to Les Phillips as that will give his father's name and occupation which would help.

See if you can find anything else out and then get back to us.

I'm about to go to bed now but will search the full indexes tomorrow to see if there is a Henrietta Artley marriage in Bridlington.

Mother's Maiden Name: Artley
District: Chester

Mother's Maiden Name: Artley

I think that marriage is possibly a red herring as these births come up on free BMD for Phillips/Artley mmn

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page

Births Dec 1915 (>99%)
Phillips Frances E Artley Chester 8a 560

Births Jun 1918 (91%)
Phillips William H B Artley Bridlington 9d 534

Births Mar 1920 (>99%)
Phillips George E Artley Chester 8a 843

I think that maybe the full indexes for Bridlington would need to be searched as they don't seem to have a high percentage transcribed.

It's still a mystery as none of the later born children have MMN Artley on the full indexes.

Hi Linda,

I don't know really know what else to suggest, maybe the children were all born in different areas and then they eventually settle in Hunmamby.

Are any of your husbands aunts or uncles still living, if so maybe they could help with some details.
