I think we now have the right family and that Daniel New who you orignally needed confirmation on and the name of his wife is the one I have found on the above census records with John.

Daniels wife is Lucy !! - Hope this helps and confirms a bit more for you.

Yes I have John and Ellen's marriage cert..
They married 28th March 1853
He was of age and it looks like it says she was a minor, cant quite understand it, he was a bachelar and she a spinster..Johns occupation was Police Constable, His father Daniel was a draper, her father was Edmund Thorn and he was a shoe maker,
Married at St Marylebone, and the County I think says Middlesex

Before I go any further do you have the marriage cert in your hands?? Or is it what you have been told by someone as the only marriage of a John New that took place that I can find in March 1853 is to a Susannah and it took place in Marylebone London, Middlesex

Not happy as later in the census John is still showing as a Cooper and what looks like Furnaceman...............But can't find a son John for Daniel New and Susan so it's still pointing towards Daniel and Lucy

Just confirm John's wifes name as I can't see his occupation listed as Policeman

As you have a rough idea of John's DOB if you send for his birth cert that will confirm his mothers name and then you know 100% which is which.
But I bet that your Daniel married Lucy

Oh and the date of marriage was 28 march 1853 and age was " of age "
John was a policeman
