Hi Christopher

Just logged on again, at the end of another day's work.

I'll have a dig around for you

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 29 May 2008 16:51

Here's the marriage:

Name: William James Walrond
Year of Registration: 1844
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: City of London
County: London
Volume: 2
Page: 161 (click to see others on page)

Her name was Eliza Bell Cox

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 29 May 2008 16:58

On the Law List of Country Attorneys for 1843 is this entry:

57. Barking, Essex

Walrond, William James in London and Wells, George in London.

So it looks as if he was either a barrister or a solicitor

I think that if you have a dig around on familysearch.org you find out a lot more about his family.

I asked yesterday if there might be a Carribean connection. Apparently some of the early English settlers - in the 1600s - were Walronds. They can also be found in Europe and the USA; an all country search will reveal them.

Christopher

Christopher Report 29 May 2008 19:35

I am not aware of any carribean connection, however we are talking about the 1600s , so anything is possible.

Christopher

Christopher Report 30 May 2008 16:53

I was completely wrong with the year of birth for Jonathan Maxwell. it seems strange that Richard Bruce would be living in a hotel.

robertpplane

robertpplane Report 30 May 2008 16:54

Just googled him myself: enter "Richard Isaac Bruce" including the exclamation marks. A number of books were written about him and there are mentions of his son. For example on this link

http://www.bl.uk/collections/afghan/sources1919to1928.html

there is this research reference:

'Mss Eur F163

BRUCE (Charles Edward), Lt-Col
Bruce Collection: correspondence and papers of Lt-Col Charles Edward Bruce (1876-1950), Indian Army 1896, Indian Political Service 1901-31, and of his father Richard Isaac Bruce (1840-1924), Indian Civil Service 1863-96, relating chiefly to the North-West Frontier and Baluchistan; includes papers on Afghan tribes in the early 20th century.

81 items, 1871 - 1939'

robertpplane Report 30 May 2008 17:04

The Mss Eur F163 is the National Archives at Kew reference for the Bruce private papers, which you can access.

Christopher

Christopher Report 30 May 2008 17:06

I knew there was an indian army connectioon in the family but not all that detail. I take it that charles edward was the brother of jonathan maxwell.

robertpplane

I think you need to do some research and find the connection

For me its been a fascinating journey.

Happy hunting

Hi

Mabel Walrond Trengrouse was a daughter to Henry Trengrouse (1842-1927) and his wife Mabel Walrond.

Henry was son to Nicholas Trevenen Trengrouse and Louisa Catherine Oats, from Helston in Cornwall. Louisa was the 12th of 14 children to a Captain Richard Oats from Penzance (her sister Matilda is my ancestor, have a large 1870s photo of her...)

Henry and family moved to London/Surrey area in the 1870s I would imagine.

Hope this helps
Tom Cory.
