Hi Glen

Unfortunately I don't had subscription to Ancestry so I can't look at the original image and can only go by the first names and ages matching.

It doesn't mention a Parish on the birth certificate .. just 'Lady Balk' Pontefract. I can only find a Lady Balk Lane in Pontefract not a district.

I will find them .. I keep going away and coming back to it.

Thanks

Melanie

Here is a suggestion

Instead of trawling through names try going through the districts.

Seing as you have the 1880 birth cert does it mention anything about a parish? If it does locate that parish (and the district(s) in the 1881 census then go through the district page by page.

I have one lot misindexed in 1891 as Gresham when the name is Chambers. I only found them by going through the parish image by image and lo and behold the image said Chambers...........address, Gresham Street.

Sorry Melanie, no luck. I can only suggest that someone may have incorrectly copied down the surname above them on the sheet in the previous (or same) household.

Don't give up. I found a missing 1881 after 4 years and many postings on here. Have you looked for Sarah/William's parents to see if they are with them but mistranscribed?

Thats them Helen !!

I have tried everything .. Am now 3000 records in to 27,000 for no name born 1880 on Ancestry.

Have got the Birth Certificate of their second child born 1880 in Lady Balk, Pontefract and they have another child 1 year later so I would think they would still be there.

Here are the names again !!

William Gregory .. b1857 .. Wollerton, Salop
Sarah Gregory .. b1860 .. Aston, Staffs

William Thomas Gregory .. b 1878 .. Madeley, Staffs
Mary Ann Gregory .. b1880 .. Lady Balk, Pontefract, Yorkshire.

Thanks

I have posted 3 times for this and nobody can find them. Have even looked through 1000's of records on Ancestry inputting no name and still haven't had any luck.

Think they want to remain missing,

There are people missing on all censuses, for various reasons, as Nicky said.

However, the most common reason for not finding someone on a census is that they have been mistranscribed, the enumerator spelt their name wrong, the birthplace has been entered differently from what you specified in the search.

Generally, the more information you enter into the search, the less success you will have!

Blame our illiterate ancestors, who didn't know how to spell their names, weren't sure when or where they were born, and only slightly more literate enumerators!!

As Nicky said, put the name up on here and see if someone can help you

Melanie, I have relatives that are not on various census from 1841-1901, there are various reasons, some where ruined, some people may have simply just been out when the enumerator called, so wern`t entered for that reason. Are you sure they hav`nt been mistranscribed? why don`y you give some details and see if anyone can help.

I was just wondering if there were instances of people not being recorded on the 1881 Census. Perhaps if they were travelling between Counties on the day of the Census ?

Thanks
