I think somewhere along the line it seems your man has shortened his name!!...or it's been abreviated and stuck !

To add weigth to this, there are NO relevant births for Henry Johns at all

There are only Welsh births for Henry John

So this would be your likely man....

I know sometimes things fall at you your not expecting, but 2 of us have found this guy and he's a Boot man all the way thru and from London. It seems maybe he was Illiterate and couldn;t spell his name, or he changed it to avoid be found?? Esp likely if he was fathering children with different women??

Hi Again. Sorry I had to nip out.

I think you will find Henry Johnson was still with his sister Rosina Terry on the 1901 census therefore he could not have been in Aldershot in 1901. Dud.

Dudley Report 26 Jul 2008 21:54

If you look up Rosina FERRY on the 1901 (enumerators error again) you will find her at the same address and Henry was still with her but not a bootmaker but a haberdasher. Dud.

As it stands, your guy was not born when are where you think, that still applies...

If this Henry isn't your guy and your sure of it your task is not over...

When were the children born? Do you have address's you can search the census for?

Dudley

Dudley Report 26 Jul 2008 22:03

Hi.
The children I refer to were both born in Aldershot one of which was my mother now 98 years old. She knows absolutely nothing about her father as she was only two years old when he dissapeared . My grandmother married again in 1918. Dud.

Could your man have lost some age over time??

1861 England Census

Dudley

Dudley Report 26 Jul 2008 22:18

Have also come across this Henry.

1861 Servant. Soho. age 19
1871 Bootmaker. Now b.St Lukes. age 32
1881 John Johns (enumarators error) age 43 Boot finisher.
1891 age 53 Bootmaker
1901 Wife shown as widow.
Death of a Henry Johns 1899 aged 62 London City.
Family were living Finsbury so London City is not truly correct unless he was there at the time of his death. The only way of proving this is by obtaining the death cert. Dud.

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 26 Jul 2008 22:21

so you've discounted him to?

Dudley

Dudley Report 26 Jul 2008 22:26

No not yet.. He is a probable. If it was this Henry that had two children with me grandmother then he would have been about 74 years old when they were born.

Must close down now. Thanks for all your help and suggestions. Dud.

Dudley,

If Henry was still around for the 1911 census and you have an address you could pay for a lookup.
