Looking for Sabina Vaus, born c1836, Surrey, England, apparently on 1861 Essex census. (Do not have UK Ancestry; cannot see full details.)

Sabina, born c1836, was the name of my ancestor's sister. Wondering if the above is my Sabina. Thank you for your help.

(Having internet problems; if I don't come back here today, I will check again from work tomorrow.) Thank you.

Thank you very much, Lost. That's her; she and some siblings were born in Albury, Surrey. (Cannot find her birth; have a "family bible" that mentions her; now I know she did exist.) Thank you!!

Sorry, I was still checking out where Woodford is (trying to see how close it is to other Mumford locations in Essex). (Sabina's sister married a Mumford, believed to be born in Essex.)

Thank you SO much for all of the information. I am thrilled. I knew of Sabina's existence, but haven't researched this family too much. I always felt that she died young. Sounds strange, but I'm happy to see that she did outlive childhood. I've always wondered about her, since she was the only sibling (out of 14) who didn't have a common name. She is one of two siblings that is not on the LDS website (for birth). Thank you again!!

PS Unfortunately, with a name of Smith it will be difficult...would there be a chance I could trace the Smith family to living rellies, do you think? My ancestors left England prior to 1870, so I don't know anything about more recent research. I have made contact with three Vaus descendants (two through this site)...haven't tried looking for Vaus' who married and changed their names.

I think this is her in 1851 the name looks like Vaus on the image.

Lost, thank you SO much! I can't believe what you have found! I was just looking through LDS records, to see which siblings have birth records. After a brief check, I can't find her older siblings (haven't looked thoroughly, though.) I always thought they were born in Shipley, Sussex. Can't wait to google Chilworth!

Sabina's siblings were:
Frederick, born 1818
William
Anna
Mary Ann
Carolina
Elizabeth
Emily, b1827
Susanna(h) (my ancestor), 1829
Maria
Louisa, 1831
Henry, 1833
Ellen, 1834
Sabina, c1836
Charles, 1837 (died 6 days old)

So, you definitely found her and her siblings.

One of Sabina's brothers (believe it was Frederick) died around age 31 supposedly while trying to save someone who was drowning. (Just added that since you have been so kind to spend so much time and effort looking for the family. I thought it might make the family more personal, rather than just names and dates.) :)

Sabina's father died 1846; mother died 1850. Explains why she was working in 1861, eh?

I see that Henry was born in London. :)

It's too long of an explanation, so won't type it, but I've wondered if the family travelled to London. This helps with some other research!!

Your Smiths really depends on the names. I was lucky with mine they gave them all unusual first names and often included the mmn as a middle name. I'll see if I can find them in 1901.

Hi Lost:

You've already looked so much for me. If you are in the UK, it is getting late and I originally was just wondering about Sabina.

Thank you so much for everything! This is one of the biggest "breakthroughs" I've had. (Been looking on and off for all direct ancestors for 25+ years. Have spent very little time looking for any siblings.) I realize you posted a few minutes ago and may have started looking. If not, it's something that can wait for another time. Don't mean to sound ungrateful, just worried about the time you have spent looking.
--------------------
Just spotted your latest posting; I will try to get the certificate. Have very few certificates from the UK (all the rest are from Canada). So about time I get UK certs, eh? :)

Thank you again for everything. It is really appreciated!!

Sorry, but haven't figured out who Percy Smith is. Sounds exciting, though. :)

Percy was Sabina's son?

Hi Lisa

Don't worry I'm an imsomniac and this helps to tire me out :-) I actually wish I was joking but sleep does not come easy for some strange reason. Anyway I'll post this one as it helps to tie things up nicely. It looks like Sabina died before 1901 and Florence is still at home with her father but look who's with them!!! Had a look for Percy Henry Smith marriages but their are several so you may have to wait for the 1911 census for him.
