yes going to order marriage cert as there is no listing for her birth in 1926 3rd or 4th quarters it's really bugging me now thanks for all your help paula

Hi everyone, It loks like OZ is a red herring. Just had my mums death cert back and the details are as follows:
Name and surname: Cheryle Alexandria Jones otherwise Silk
Maiden Surname: Plattern
Date and Place of Birth: 26th September 1926 London
So I will have to concerntrate on the london aspect to findout more Thanks for all your help Paula

Please let me know the outcome most interested,nightime in Oz,will let you know how to order certs from OZ after your cert comes back ,so we know the state we have to order it from.

PS. If your mother was indeed born inOZ

certificate has been ordered hoping for more info when it arrives apparently takes 4 working days thanks paula

Do you have a copy of your mother's death certificate?
After 1969, place of birth is shown, so maybe the informant knew that information?

Thanks everyone for all the help this is turning into a real mystery. I will look into the marriage mentioned, but Im a little unsure bearing in mind I was born in 1956 and Fredrick was deffinately my natural father (like two peas in a pod).
Sorry There is no documentation I can find about my mother my father didn't appear to keep anything. The only thing I have is one photo of my parents taken about 8mths before she died. Sorry I cant help more but I really want to findout what the big mystery was and why she never told us anything. Thank again everyone for all your help Paula

Hi Paula Your birth index is showing Plattern as your mothers maiden name.
Do you have any docs, ie; marr cert, birth certs, anything that may help us help you find out when and where she was born.
I have sent a request to a Sidney search site,that may come up with something,closed over the weekend .
Also emailed my cousin in Sidney,she is very good,I live in Western Australia,it is a very big country,she would know more search sites to look at.Regards Susan

This might be a red herring, sorry if it turns out to be but thought I would add it just in case it does have some relevance.

Based on the birth for Michael Silk that Tin Fields found I thought I would search for a Silk/Plattern marriage and found this one:

Harry J Silk to Alexandre Plattern 1955 Q3 Southwark ref. 5d 1295

I then searched for a possible birth for Alexandre Plattern from 1935 - 1925 and found NO births in the name of Plattern at all, none! Searched 1901 census for the name Plattern.....found just one in Wales......searched freebmd for births Plattern.....None, not one!! Searched marriages and found Bertie J Plattern to Brown 1921 Q2 but the birth of Bertie is shown as Platten.
