Find Ancestors

I tried this, there werent that many entries. I have viewed them all, none of them match. Its so strange that I cant find a record of his birth or death. I have even contacte the Greenock cemetery for them to search buriel records, 9 weeks on and I'm still waiting on a reply.

Found this info on Scotlands people about mothers maiden name on death records.

1. Searches 1855-1957 (records more than 50 years old)
If you enter a mother's maiden surname and this information has not yet been indexed, the record will not be found. To ensure that all entries where the mother's maiden surname has not yet been captured in the index are returned, please check the Include Unrecorded Mother's Maiden Surname box. Be aware that this may greatly increase the number of possible matches.

So mabe his mothers name was not listed on death record, therefore there will be loads on deaths and you wont knowwhich one is him.

I know, I've been looking at this for months and keep going back to it. Its really frustrating.

I had a look at scotlands people too, using just his name and 1901-1939. I did get a list, using unrecorded mothers maiden name, but none of the John Ross's are a match. I had though that maybe his first name wasnt John, perhaps he was just known as John, however it says John on his marriage certificate and all his kids birth certificates.

I have checked the deaths on Scotland People and just with his name (no age) between 1901 when he was in the census until 1939 when you already know he was dead by then. There is NO DEATHS on Scotlands People, I used his mothers maiden name of McDonald which you can do but no Death in Scotland there.

No I dont have his death either, I dont even know what year to search. I presume that he died in Greenock. John son William, my grampa, got married in 1939, John Ross is marked as deceased on the marriage cert.

I found the birth certificate for Johns older brother.

Yeah Betty, I've looked at all these already and none of them are the correct John Ross...why do you think?

There is no birth in Renfrew in 1867 for a John Ross.

I've looked at 1864 birth but its not him. John Ross must have been born 1867-1868 as he was 24 on 06jul1892, according to marriage cert.

No I havent managed to find the birth of Alexander, aged 8 on the 1871 census.
