Find Ancestors

I have just dug out John Ross and Martha Harkins marriage certificate, just to check things. Married 06July1892. Greenock.

It states that John is 24 and Martha is 22. Its difficult to read, it says that Johns father is Alexander Ross, possible a clothing traveller and deceased. It says his mother is Isabella Ivison, formerly Ross, Ms McDonald.

I presume that she remarried as Alexander Ross had died. Viewed their marriage certificate again, on it it says widow. I agree with you all, the dates are not adding up!

The 1872 marriage for John Ivison is to Isabella McDonald and not Ross

Why do you think that Isabella remarried?

Where else can I look to try and find out when John Ross was born? I've exhausted Scotlands People and IGI but getting now where. Keep viewing birth certificates and they are not his. I keep looking for births though in Renfrewshire, maybe he wasnt born there, maybe Glasgow? Can anyone find the family on a 1861 census?

Catherine has said in a pm that she has aready viewed the births fom Scotlands People I posted for John Ross but none of them are her John Ross.
