please could some kind person help me im stuck.Im trying to find my gr.grandfather on my mothers side. All the info i have to go on is his name JAMES HARRISON CROSS and that he was a labourer in the lancashire area at the time my grandmothers marriage in 1924.Ive tried going on the census but to no avail. It also does not help as my grandfather was born out of wedlock. My grandmothers name was Annie Langham dob 1873-1955.I dont know if anyone can shed a light on it for me, but im stumped.Thank you very much for at least looking if nothing else.jude

I'm a little confused, was it your gran Annie or your grandfather ? that was James' child? Is Langham your grans maiden name or married?

Hi Judith
Do you know anything about your grandmothers brothers or sisters - this could help trace them on the census returns

Hi susan, this is totally confusing,it does look like the name is anthony cross but cant understand why ive got a totally different name on the wedding certificate of my grandparents.Everything else after that regarding annie marrying James Walter Langham fits perfectly. The message from west country lass regarding mr.cross and family must be his marriage after him and Annie parted.Wow i cant get over how everyone has been so helpfull thanks to you all your marvelous, jude

Hi christine, thanks for everything yes thats my grandfather henry cross he died on 05/11/1955.Unfortunatly all my grandparents died before i got into doing a family tree so cannot ask for help from anybody that way.Thankfully all you wonderfull people are helping me no end, jude

The birth reg I just gave you would suggest the mother was unmarried so could be your Annie Cross.

The 1901 for Henry which appears to suggest he is the son of Anthony has just been misinterpreted I think as Anthony Cross is single.

Maybe the James Harrison Cross as father on marriage cert was just invented to appear more respectable.

The 1901 census image has Anthony Cross as boarder. Hy Cross listed underneath him as son - could it not mean he the is son of Head of family?

In 1881 census posted earlier Annie has a brother Anthony.

I feel Christine is correct in thinking James Harrison Cross may be ficticious
