Thank you for all your help with this.
I'm not sure if Caroline died, that is possible.
I did trace that line, but was told by my grt aunt that it must be the wrong family as their mother was Spanish. Who knows, the BC will certainly help.

Thank you for all the help you have given me with this one.
I now have the birth cert and I did follow the correct line last time round. It does confirm the mother as Ellen Bowering and father as William Frederick Churchward. Although I cannot seem to find anything on Ellen other than the 1891 census with her parents. A possible misspelling of the surname, Bowern, Bouring, Bowring, who knows?
Can anyone help find Ellen Bowering please?

Your probably not going to get anything other than the 1901 posted and the 1891 you have....

If she was born after april 1881 then she will not appear on the 1881 census. Sometimes life conspires against you....!

However we should be able to find her family.

Why do you think she was born after the 1881 census? Could this be her?

The only reason i say she *could* have been born after the April 1881 is the 1901 states 1881.... you know how these things can bite us!

I've had more than a few....

What would be the reason for the name to change so much tho? ....and there are Bowering's on the page also.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, I had to hang out the washing.

I don't think Bowern is that much different from Bowering, if you kind of swallow the 'ing' at the end.

I misread the bit about the birth date. Thought you had some info that she WAS born after April.

Wow...what a find, I haven't checked the site for a few days but I can't believe what you've managed to find. Thank you all so much.

I found a marriage somewhere of Richard Bowern and Caroline Lambert 1875, jsut could be a misspelling, they do sound similiar Bowering/Bowern. Do you think then at sometime Caroline died and the Mary appeared on the 1891 census? Possibly after the birth of child Caroline and after the 1881 census., around 1886?
Also the info I took from the 1881 census had the family living in 14 Pimlico, Tormoham, Devon. Richard Bowren, 34 Southhampton
Caroline 23
Henry son 14 southampton
Richard son 7 Weymouth
Alfred son 5 Torquay
Ellen Dau 16 (months?) Torquay

Caroline is not old enough to be the mother of at least Henry???
Thanks again
