What do you mean there are no parish records? I assume that you are looking for a baptism for him. Do you mean there are no records online or that there are none at the records office?

Where was he born? He may not have been baptised or he could have been baptised years after he was actually born.

Did he marry?

Hi

Sorry yes I meant his baptism, he was born in Nypmsfield, Gloucs.

I have his marriage cert and death.

His father will be named on his marriage cert........if known!

Sam

I would suggest Joanne is referring to online.... as she's posting very late on a Sunday evening and people only tend to post when they can't get any further!!!

Joanne, as already mentioned you need to give us more data than your immediate cry for help....

...there are plenty of Parish Records online you either be lucky enough to have a relative in a County covered well.... or hoping someone here has the records on disc (as it's late on a Sunday evening and i kinda get the impression the NOW! urge is kicking in)

I can be the same when i've ordered certs, my rellie may have been dead 150 years but i still wanna know who their parents were NOW!

:)

Don't forget that the LDS site rotates the records...............so what isn't there today may be there in a few weeks' time..............

Sam

Sam Report 21 Sep 2008 22:48

Tracey,
She didn't make that clear, she said 'There are no parish records available'! That is very different to 'I can't find anything online'...

Joanne,
That period should be covered by the IGI but I can't see him. As I mentioned it is possible that he wasn't baptised or that he was baptised somewhere else or later than you think.

You need really to check the original PR's in the Records Office for Gloucestershire - either by visiting or by asking for a lookup from someone who is.

Ericthered,
Is that '6 week rotation' really true? I have heard it mentioned many times but have never been able to find any evidence. None of my rellies have appeared then disappeared (or vice versa) and I can't find any mention of it on the LDS site. I'm not disputing that it does happen, just that some evidence would be nice.

I have experienced finding info on the LDS site.............then being unable to find it at a later date.

Can't be firm about the time-scale.............but I hadn't been drinking!! (well, not much)

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 21 Sep 2008 22:55

I don't think they rotate...i have heard this, they do update every 6 weeks tho, and are still uploading data....!!

They have now joined forces with FMP to help get the entire census's online free.

They have given FMP some of their parish records for them to upload onto their paid site, and FMP are donating census images.

And now the new owners of FMP are the people who run Scotlandspeople and also the ones who will be responsible for making the 1911 available online, data is getting more and more exciting.....

...data exchange on such a scale can never be a bad thing.

Hi All

This time of day is the only bit of peace that I get, so tend to poke aroundon here abit. Many of you have help me in the past, so thought I'd ask for abit of advice again.

I have done alot of researching online, but always backed up my findings with certs.

I do know that James' father was William Window and that he was a Weaver, this info I gained from James' marriage cert, but I wanted his baptism record?? to find both parents, so I can go on from there, but as I said there appears to be no record.

Just wanted advice as to where I go from here.

Yes Ericthered, that is the right James, but the record has been mistranscribed, his spouse was not Mary, but Sarah Jemima Smith.

Hi

Just to add, I had someone search the parish records in Gloucs for this, but she couldn't find a baptism??

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 21 Sep 2008 22:59

There are some Nympsfield records on the IGI.

Could this be a brother to your James?

JOSEPH WINDOW
Christening: 19 JUL 1840 Nympsfield, Gloucester, England
Parents:
Father: WILLIAM WINDOW
Mother: EDITH

Sorry, to add again, I have several disc's too and no baptism for James on it.

Joanne

Joanne Report 21 Sep 2008 23:05

Hi Tracey

I don't have a Joseph in my tree, but thats not to say he's not related.

James had a brother called David Window, born 1807.

What else can I tell you?

Thanks

Jo

Joanne

Is it possible his mother was from 'out of town' and he was baptised elsewhere?

Couples usually marry in the parish of the wife, maybe they went back to that church to have him baptised?

Tracey

Joanne

Joanne Report 21 Sep 2008 23:08

Hi Tracey, I suppose it is possible, but how do I go about finding that out??

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 21 Sep 2008 23:09

It'll be a case of checking out all the local villages. Do you know of any siblings you can check?

How early have you found them on the census's?

Tracey

I found baptism records of whole families on the IGI which are no longer there...............

Ironically, in view of the subject of this thread, this was for a Gloucestershire Parish.
