Well you don't.

Some lines just stop because you cannot find data. Your lucky you have got to 1820 one of my sides stops at 1870 at the moment.....

....sometimes tree's are like that. I know how frustrating it is!

Joanne, when you get to the 1820's your allowed to have a slight 'needle in a haystack' stab at things....

...occasionally (well more often than not) we all fall on things by accident esp when things get a little vague.

James was murdered by his son Frederick in 1893, this took place in Gloucs. I have a book called Gloucestershire Murders and this murder is in the book - as I couldn't find a baptism for James, I contacted the author who claims he was born there.

Please note that every other ancestor I have, I have certs for, I do not normally rely on this sort of info.

He marries in Horsley too?

Thanks Tracey - from what I know, Gloucs was known for the weaving/silk industry years ago.

I don't have any other siblings for James, other than David, thats not to say there weren't any??

There are alot of Window's in Gloucs, and I suspect, they are all related.

James claims to come from Horsley on the 1861 census as well. Why do you think he was born in Nymsfield?

These couldn't have had a son born in 1807 though, so probably not.

I've checked that District register and there is another Window, a Martha Window she's a weaver living with a Rachael Smith and maybe her father? they are also listed as Weavers?

I'm going to check the districts either side of where James was living.

The tree researcher I use, did search some of the other local villages with no luck, maybe I should ask her to search the others.

James was on the 1851census with his wife and some children.

To be fair i have found members of my lot that have disappeared and then reappeared under new coding.

I used t use the IGI batch numbers listed online as a guide, but i have now found them to be outdated, as i now find data on batch numbers not listed on there!

I suppose time and data wait for no (wo)man!

I found baptism records of whole families on the IGI which are no longer there...............

Ironically, in view of the subject of this thread, this was for a Gloucestershire Parish.

It'll be a case of checking out all the local villages. Do you know of any siblings you can check?

How early have you found them on the census's?

Is it possible his mother was from 'out of town' and he was baptised elsewhere?

Couples usually marry in the parish of the wife, maybe they went back to that church to have him baptised?

I don't have a Joseph in my tree, but thats not to say he's not related.

James had a brother called David Window, born 1807.
