Hence wanting to see the 1861 census.
She would be on it aged 3...with possible brother John and Uncle George...

If the other marriage.

Marriages Dec 1853
Hodges John Hastings Portsea 2b 662
Stephenson Ann Portsea 2b 662

In the 1861 census showed no daughter Elizabeth..the n the other must be the right family yes?

Then to know for sure i would get it

She married as Elizabeth Emma, and she was born Elizabeth Emma

But because there are 2 possibles for parents then i would deffo get the certs

Also could find no Ann Hardiman or Stephenson born Dorset on the 1851

Sorry don't have the marriage cert.

John William Johnston & Elizabeth Emma Hodges appear on their sons birth cert as parents.

Who was the Witness on Elizabeth's marriage & what was her dads occupation

Also do yo have Elizabeth on the 1871 &81 as i can't see her..then on the 1891 she says she was born in Portmouth

Hodges John Hastings Portsea 2b 662
Stephenson Ann Portsea 2b 662

If this one doesnt have a daugther named Elizabeth born 1858....then the other is correct!

I think you'll be best to get Elizabeth's B/C for Mums maiden name, as i was trying to cross ref so bits but nothing is jumping out

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:21

Yes!..that makes the George birth 1818!...as it says he's 43....wow!..lol... :) All my time cross referencing seems to work well...lol..it certainly confirms my thoughts. :)

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:19

looking I see the name George there also..GREAT!..i had also a feeling there was a George also..I believe maybe Johns brother.! ( her fathers)..born 1818?

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:11

So was after a marriage where there was a child named Elizabeth who was born 1858..soooo
1861 she would be 3.
i knew where she was born Portsea...so its a case of cros matching names dates and places to find who, where, etc.
I knew( dont know how) she had a brother John.. Born 2 years ealier in Portsea....So assumed the marriage was in Portsea around early 1850's, fathers surname Hodges..So cross referenced with those marriages around that time in Portsea where the fathers surname was Hodges. And there was..but a few with the name John...so..as sons ( borthers) name was John..then John Hogdes maybe her father. so....etc etc. Just some common sence and cross referenceing. Works rather well. But I do have some actual facts mixed in :)
