Very curious that Frederick J.D. didn't know where he was born, he was evidently an educated man! Can't find him before he marries Eleanor. What's he hiding?

Incidentally I know of a certain William Henry Pratt who was born 1887, Dulwich, England. He came to Canada, changed his name to Boris Karloff, moved down to Hollywood and the rest is history!
His grandmother was Elizabeth Edwards whose sister was Anna who married Thomas Leon Owens and became Anna Leonowens of "King and I" fame.
As you can see I tend to go off on tangents!

Aha! Frederick's full name was Frederick John Delville Pratt as shown on the christening of his son:
Frederick John Delville Pratt born 18 June 1866, christened 29 Nov. 1868, St. Mary's, Portsea, Hampshire. Parents Frederick John Delville Pratt and Eleanor Ann Elizabeth.
All of the children's christenings are there on Familysearch. Clarence was Clarane (sp) George Frederick Delville Pratt.

Somebody has the tree on Ancestry. Tree owner is Lynne Page, there's a lot of info, well documented. They have Frederick J. Deville Pratt born 31 Jan. 1833, Portsea to George William Pratt and Ann Penny.

thats interesting margaret my dads family are pennys from portsea going to take a look.

according to a tree on ancestry frederick, barons father died in victoria australia in 1883,

and eleanor died in 1902 in england

Many thanks for your responses - you really know so much! I've only been doing this for two weeks now, and am hooked.

I have found various things as a result of the information you provided, but seem to be unable to find the correct Frederick Pratt on the 1871 census - couldn't find Baron either. Also, how do you get access to the 1881 census? I assume there must be another website you're looking at?

Also, when you say that someone has the tree on Ancestry - how do I get to look at that?

So many questions!!!!! This is starting to rule my life - haven't had so much fun in ages!!

your baron wasn't born until 1873 so wouldnt be on th 1871 census , baron george his brother was born in 1870 but died age 1.
