Ok people.

Thankyou very much for your replies. A lot of you have been very very helpful. I will explain why I am only just replying.

Whilst I joined GR a few years ago I have only just started using the site. To be honest I even forgot I had started the thread.

Its not that I am being rude I firstly forgot that I had started the thread and (Heather will vouch for this) didn't even know how to find the thread agai.

Thanks to Heather and Kathleen for contacting me and thanks to all of you that have provided help. Some of you were spot on with your information.

Finally, I would like to apologise to Ann. She seems to be particularly miffed at the delay in my reply. What must it be like when someone goes on holiday for 2 weeks Ann ? You must get really upset then.

Ann: "doesent it just tick you off"

I tell you what ticks me off is not giving new members to a message board a bit of slack.

Michael,

Please don't get upset with Ann - it's just that a lot of people who like to help out on the boards, really don't understand why someone doesn't post a request at a time when they can hang around for half an hour or so just in case anyone needs to ask a question to help find the information that is being requested.

On Genes most requests get a reply within a few minutes (this thread had replies within 5 minutes) and sometimes things need verifying with the poster. Personally I wouldn't expect someone to ask a question and then go off on holiday for 2 weeks without checking to see if there was an answer first - but then I suppose we are all different.

I understand that if you have just started using the boards things are different and personally I think it is GenesReunited's fault for not explaining properly to new members how to find threads and look at replies.

Michael, read the Tips for Newbies thread - it will give you a background to research and board etiquette.

As a newbie you wont appreciate that some of the members on here freely give a LOT of time, in some cases actually use their own money to look up info for posters.

I hope you will buy some of the certs found to help you on your way.

it was very "tongue in cheek" Michael and certainly not intended to offend - if I did upset you, please accept my apologies - we did post our questions within minutes of you posting though!!

No problem. Apology accepted. As I said, having never previously used the message board I did not expect to receive any reply at all let alone half a dozen replies within the first half an hour.

I have learned my lesson ; )

surprising how quickly you can get the hang of it all isn't it - finding the thread again seems to be the one that flummoxes most

I pop in and out of the boards and if I spot a new posting I try to be the one who gets the info first - childish I know, but I love it!!!!
