Hi Michelle You are correct about the census, the next one will be released around 2011,100 yeras apart, that will be the 1911 census.
On the marriage of John and Ethel it is not uncomman to get married in London a lot of people did, example Gretna Green is famous for marriages.
In my experience the marriage is correct,no children so we can stop looking for them.
On looking for Ethel would be hard but not inpossible, death reg,Telephone book in the mid 50's,I will have a look abit later I have a busy morning today but will look later.Cheers Sue

She could be the one listed as born in 1904 in Brigg Q1.

Michelle Report 19 Nov 2008 11:13

I now know for definite that there were no children for John & Ethel. I had a very interesting convs last night with a local that I tracked down who knows quite a bit about the history of the village.
I am also told that Ethel Isaacs was local & her family were farmers in the area. They were not from London. A relation (her nephew) Harry Isaacs is believed to be in his 80's & still alive. I did not find any Isaacs in the area when I looked. Are there any??
Also am I right in thinkng that no censues information is yet available any later than 1901?
She apparently 'disappeared' when he went to war & the village never saw her again. Would be nce to find out where she went.
Any help??? Again - sorry!!
Thanks

Michelle

I do not have much info on Ethel. She is Ethel Kathleen Bainbridge (nee Issacs).
Their marriage was Dec 1929.
He ws born 1885 so I looked around that time for her as well but came up with 2-3 that could have been possibilities.
I don't really have much more info on her.
Sorry!
Thanks ever so much.
I presumed she would come from Lincolnshire area as well but looks like she cold have come from elsewhere as both marriages were London area.

Hi Michelle I have searched birth indexes for children of John Frederick and Ethal all four qua years 1930-31-32-33,they married Dec 1929.
I cannot find any children so far.
You mentioned his service record for WW2 I thought that would have his wifes name and that of his children, along with his date if birth ,that would come in handy,do you have his date of death that would give his birth date also.Sue

Hi ,He is visiting at no 3 Gainsbro Road still a farmer.
I am going out for a while will check out your request when I get home.
On the marriage of John F and Ethel, they usualy marr where the wife comes from not always but most of the time.
Do you have any info on Ethel to help, like date of birth,if you have there marr cert any details at all, there are a few to choose from ,one that looks good is Katherine Ethel Isaac's ,see what you can dig up
What was her age on her marriage cert when she remarried.Sue

Susan - thanks for that. Yes I do need to get all my info sorted out so I know what I have & have not got!
I can't seem to see anywhere the details for Ethel K Isaacs as to where she was born etc. I can't understand why they were married in Marylebone unless she came from that area & not from Lincolnshire. I know we have the details of her remarriage & that was London area also. I knmow it's cheeky as you have already helped loads but can you find the details on her? I still can't find anything - I have got to be doing it wong as it is obviously there.
Thanks v much

If it says Marylebone for the marriage, then that's where they married.

Michelle

Michelle Report 10 Nov 2008 21:17

No problem! Now I understand. No wonder I couldn't understand what they had to do with it.

Why is Marylebone mentioned then? They were not married there according to info already received on here.

Thanks v much!

The other names are nothing to do with Bainbridge and Isaac- they just appear on the same page. It tells you that Bainbridge married a woman named Isaac and that Ethel K Isaac married a man named Bainbridge, so that's all you need to know - ignore the rest!

Michelle

Michelle Report 10 Nov 2008 14:44

So first line;

Bainbridge John F Isaac (not sure what the Isaac means here - it's Ethel's maiden name) Marylebone (where he got married- thought they were married in Louth?)

Who are the other people mentioned then?

Lillian L Payne (nee Langwell)??
Lillian L Nixon (nee Langwell)??

Same person??

Ernest HSA Langwell (not sure what Payne & Dixon are - not maiden names for a man)

Sorry for all the questions but don't understand it!

Ah right, lovely, that answers why she possibly bought it then. I have done a bit of research on his army career & he was in both world wars so that could be why.
They lived in Lincolnshire, South Elkington is where he was born, then farmed there for a long time, have found a reference to him living at Riby and then they built this house at Laceby.
Thanks ever so much for your help.

Bainbridge John F Isaac Marylebone 1a 1404
Isaac Ethel K Bainbridge Marylebone 1a 1404
LANGWELL Ernest H S A Payne Marylebone 1a 1404
LANGWELL Ernest H S A Nixon Marylebone 1a 1404

Can you just interpret the above for me?? Not sure what the other names are .......

I am trying to find some children for John but nothing coming up may have to search indexes !uh! ,will give it a try.
Where did John and Ethel Live all there married life, that will help narrow down Poss.
On the purchase of land in Ethels name,my mother in law did the same because her hubby was away with the forces and money sent to her ie; wages from army she saved and bought the land for there home while he was away.
I live in OZ so I think it would be the same over there.
