This is a very sad post- I think there is a story here but I guess we wont ever know. As a (recent) grandma my heart goes out to you MSK. I guess you have no contact with the little one.

It would hurt so much if I had no contact with my little person. God bless you all

I so hate to think the OP has no contact with her (his) grandaughter. I would so hate that. My little madam is the most important person in my life- oh yes she is naughty and spoilt but i ( and my otherwise tough other half) give into her all the time. LOL yes we overindulgent grandparents but i think that what MSK wants to be. I find the OP posts do sad, And ty ann for yours

Thankyou Susan and Ann,

I am Aaliyah's nanny and would like to thankyou for your kind words.
Although I have other grandchildren that I am fortunate enough to see I never stop thinking about the grandaughter who was very much part of my life in her first few years!! sadly after her parents split up ( faults on both sides ) her mother met a new partner then just moved leaving no forwarding address.
Although I fully understand her parents were unable to stay together it seems unfair that one parent can just up and leave with no thoughts for the father and grandparents, cousins etc.
I hope one day Aaliyah will come and find us but in the mean time I would like her to know that she was never far from our thoughts, and perhaps one day she will visit this site looking for her father and his family and see for herself that we all missed her and left her a message on her birthday.

Thankyou again for your messages

Kind Regards
Linda X

hi Linda

I'm also in the same unfortunate position -
my d-in-law left my son in July of this year -
taking their little boy of only 2 and a half years.
yes, fault on both sides -
but his Granny & Grumpy are the ones suffering!
He was/is our world - and the only grandchild we have.
We don't know where he is and haven't seen him since.
My heart goes out to you - and all others in our situation

Hi Christine

I am sorry to hear you are in the same position as us, I think we must be the tip of the iceberg !! it seems so unfair that when a couple seperate that all contact is often severed with the grandparents and uncles aunts etc.
I hope your d-in-law will realise that her son would benefit from a set of loving grandparents who have so much love to give and that to deny this is unfair for the child who is in the long run the loser.
Thankyou for your message and my heart goes out to you and of course any other family's in the same position.

I have just sat and cried at this posting and I am a recently retired 65 yrs old chap who almost 6 mths ago was presented with his first great grandson so I can only try to imagine the torment. To my wife and I , he is the most precious thing on earth so my heart goes out to you.

Sadly this kind of thing is happening all the time - parents using children as weapons for their own purposes - if only they could see what they are doing. One day I fear their actions will come back to haunt them for denying their children contact with loving grandparents

Like AGT, I could weep - I have no grandchildren and sadly won't be having any, but it would be my dearest wish to have one. Fortunately I have a close friend and she lets me share hers!!!

I think Ann is right, this thing seems to be happening alot these days.
I guess I am old fashioned and was fortunate to have had both my parents ( who have just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversry ) and 2 grandmothers in my life.
I never considered that families could end up losing contact !!
one thing I am sure of is that I am lucky enough to have many happy memories spent with my grandmothers and they contributed something to my life that will always stay with me.

I would just like to thank everyone for their kind messages X

I suppose something you could do to ease the pain is to get a box and every year on her birthday and at Christmas you could put a card and a present in it and when the time comes - which I am sure it will - and she finds you, you can give it to her to show her how much you have been thinking of her, even if it takes years

Susan

Susan Report 8 Nov 2008 22:56

That is a lovely idea Ann- Just a little something to show you did care and do still care.

msk Report 8 Nov 2008 23:02

Thanks for that idea Ann, I will certainly start doing this one X

I think we can involve the whole family and then her cousins can be involved too, as they grow older they will know who she is and feel some connection not just a name ( Aaliya's box ) we shall start tomorrow when my 4yr old grandson comes to visit.

Thanks again X

CLW2005 Report 8 Nov 2008 23:33

thankyou everyone for your kind words
My grandson was the reason I started my family tree research.
I only knew one grandmother and one grandfather (very breifly).
I have started a diary for Leo in which I record all my thoughts about him and how much I love and miss him.
Hopefully one day he will get to read it.
Think the box is a great idea too.

Hi Cathy,

We have started our box today, and I have to say it is very theraputic.
Its about Aaliyah and our feelings for her and if we are lucky one day she will have this box and know that she was never forgotten and very much loved and missed, only circumstances beyond our control prevented us from having contact.
I hope other people who read these posts and perhaps find themselves in this position will also find it helpful.

Thankyou to everyone who took the time to reply X

Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have one 'lovely' grand-daughter and a very new grandson - They are 'my world' - I can't imagine my life without contact with them.

I wish you all good wishes and hope that sometime in the future you will be re-united.

NEVER give up hope!

Life can be SO sad sometimes but you can't give up - One day they may need you and come looking.

Thinking of you all
