Find Ancestors

I would appreciate help in finding a marriage.

My great grandfather Arthur Nicholls was staying with his cousin, Thomas Nicholls, on the 1861 Census in the Parish of St Giles, Cripplegate.

Thomas is shown as head of the family, with other members:
Mary Ann Wife 41 Born Walworth Surrey
Thomas James Son 8 Born St Paul's Covent Garden
Henry William Son 7 Born St Paul's Covent Garden

I am trying to trace Thomas' father, and thought the best way would be to find his wife's maiden name from a son's birth certificate. Then order a marriage certificate to obtain Thomas' father's name.

Have hit a brick wall in finding son's birth details and would appreciate some help.

The only info it says is:

The district St Martin is an alternative name for St Martin in the Fields and it is in the county of Middlesex

But looking at the bmd, looks pretty sure ,Thomas jnr belonged to Mary Ann Dudley. only the birth cert would verify this. the strand district for willian says nearly the same??

This could possibly be the Mary Ann dudley she is unmarried and its a transcription error the scan reads Dudley
