Have you seen the 1861 image? There's what looks like a Stott a few doors up who is a brickie. Been transcribed as Holt.

I,m sure thats the right Ellen. She did have an illegitimate son called Richard.
Can you make out the first name of he Stott person I can,t make head nor tail of the writing.
Just for info Ellens father was a bricklayer

It looks like Ja. Jas is shorthand for James. The S could be obscured by the Y from Betty above.

Can see it now. I was hoping it was abbr of Joshua
I wonder if Joshua might have used his middle name and maybe kept Joshua for Sunday best or when he was in trouble.
