My Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Akers , I have been trying to find a birth entry for her , I have her marriage lines , her father was David Akers . She was born in c1867 , in the cenus1871 I have found an entry for her aged 5 and for an Edmund Akers aged 8 it states that they were Inmates, can anyone tell me what this means or does anyone have any information about them??? Many thanks Leeann

If they were in the workhouse and no parents are mentioned it is possible they were orhans.
Birth reg was not compulsory until 1870's. Father's names were sometimes fictitious on marriage certs. Do the witnesses to the marriage give any clues.

Sorry peeps, I live in Germany 1 hour ahead of you all and have 3 small kids 6, 4, and 2 yrs. I have to be up early here. Oxfordshire rings a bell but I don't know why. I have the original marriage lines here. Witnessess were William Harwell or Haswell and for Elizabeth, Harriet Saunders. Elizabeth Akers married Henry Seymour, both were living in Edmonton at the time of the marriage. Date July 5th 1885. He was 22yrs, she was 18. They married in the Church of St James Edmonton. Father of Henry was Thomas Seymour and Father of Elizabeth was David Akers. Both fathers were Labourers. Certificate No 290. Many many thanks to all of you who have replied and to all of you for your help. Leeann

I spoke yesterday with my mum, Elizabeth Akers was her Grandmother, she can remember visiting a little old lady dressed in black and seems to think that this could have been Elizabeth, she thinks the name of the road was Hyde or Hide Road in Edmonton. My mum was born in 1941 and she was very young at the time. I'm very grateful for all your help.

Chrissie2394 Report 25 Nov 2008 13:44

Hi Ann,

Thanks for that. The reason I've asked if there is a middle name is because of the births I found for Elizabeth and Edmund. On that one it's Elizabeth Mary.
