I didn't see Joseph in 1871, but gave up with 1861 having drawn a complete blank - will check tonight. Is the Jane you refer to as possible wife of Joseph - Jane Groom?

K,

on the marriage cert there is also the name
William Andrew Cartwright ~ and underneath Registra but this is in with the witness details??
Joseph Sutton is the Minister.

I have been trying to find the link all day and nothing!!

Also if you follow Joseph Bebington (who is deceased on the certificate) in the 1871 cencus there is a Ralph Bebington living with him in Well Street but he is not with Jane ~ who also lives in Well Street. I am 99% this is Jane's husband.

This one is very confussing

Excellent - have just returned home and was going to check it - It did seem strange. Do post details when the marriage cert arrives!

As Elizabeth listed her birth as Tattenhall I checked the images for 1851 the year before she was born and found only one female Bebbington in the village - Mary Bebbington aged 33 unmarried, a pauper who was born in the village. She was a lodger with William Speen and family. Just a thought but could she be Elizabeth's mother?

For ref the marriage

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Jun 1875 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANKERS Martha Whitchurch, S. 6a 1339
BEBINGTON Elizabeth Whitchurch, S. 6a 1339
BICKLEY William Whitchurch,S. 6a 1339
DAVIES John Whitchurch,S. 6a 1339

Elizabeth lists her birth place as Tattenhall in the 1881 census ang this birth is in the Reg District that covers Tattenhall - there is also a birth in the June quarter, but it has the same ref no which is rather strange - Have not checked the actual images

Kirsty

Kirsty Report 27 Nov 2008 14:18

I have this horrid feeling that on her marriage cert there will be no father named!!!

Kirsty

Kirsty Report 27 Nov 2008 14:17

Hi Julie,

on 1871 cencus it says Jane is Elizabeth's grandmother.

i am waiting for the marriage cert to arrive and have not got a birth cert yet as there seem to be a few born around that time!!!

Also in 1871 cencus there is a John Davies living with them but he was born in Liverpool not in Wales as mentioned on later cencus for him!!!

Julie

Julie Report 27 Nov 2008 14:14

Here the 1851....I'd say Jane was a bit too old to be Elizabeths Mum........Maybe 1 of Jane's daughter is Elizabeths mum and Jane raised her

Have you Elizabeths M/C or B/C

Hi All,

I will start at the begining!

I received the following information from a marriage cert

Andrew Forsyth Michie (father Andrew ~ seed merchant)
&
Lizzie Davies (father John ~ coachman)

married at St John Baptist Church Chester on 24th Dec 1912

witnesses were
Archigald Johnston Michie
&
Ada Mary Thompson

from this information I found this family in 1901 cencus
with no Lizzie but she was there in 1891

Name: John Davies
Age: 54
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1847
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Elizabeth
Gender: Male
Where born: Rhodes, Denbighshire, Wales

Civil Parish: Malpas
Ecclesiastical parish: Malpas St Oswald
Town: Malpas
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England
Household Members: Name Age
Ada M Davies 25
Charles Davies 11
Elizabeth Davies 48
John Davies 54 Groom Domestic
Tom Davies 17

1891
Name: John Davies
Age: 42
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Elizabeth
Gender: Male
Where born: Rhosdder, Denbighshire, Wales

Civil Parish: Malpas
Ecclesiastical parish: Malpas
Town: Malpas
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England
Household Members: Name Age
John Davies 42
Elizabeth Davies 38
Ada M Davies 15
Emily A Davies 12
Ralph J Davies 10
Tom Davies 7
Lizzie Davies 5
Charlie Davies 1

I have followed the family back and in 1881 Jane Groom is head of the house and John is son in law

So I have followed her (Jane Groom) back and also found that
John Davies married Elizabeth Bebington ~I have sent for the marriage certificate.

In the 1871 cencus Elizabeth is listed as Grandaughter and in 1861 nursery to Jane Groom.

I am trying to find a connection between Jane Groom and Elizabeth but can't seem to find 1 I have been searching for a couple of days and wondered if a fresh pair of eyes may shed some light!

Thankyou

Kirsty
