Sliwowski Report 28 Nov 2008 13:00

Hi Sylvia, Tony and Colin,

Thank you so much for all your help. As Marilyn said, I'm really lucky that Philip's life was so well documented and that there are people such as yourselves able to help access records I can't.

So to summarise...
Son Philip 1848 Brixton, Surrey, was son of Philip Anthony c1824 Kingsdown, Kent, who was son of Anthony Philip c1772 Rainham, Kent, who was son of Anthony and Elizabeth

And to think I started on the weekend with Hamilton J Dive born 1914!

There are very few Dives and they all seemed to be connected. Dives in England tend to be connected to William the Conquerer and Dyves in Scandinavia, so I've been told. My ultimate aim is to trace Anthony Dive back to a connection with my own branch of the Dives that I have going back to about 1600 in Kent. And I wish to try and connect the other Dives found in the Census' and BMD indexes. Before setting up residence in Kent I believe the Dives hailed from Bedfordshire and would eventually like to find the connection between the Kent Dives and Bedfordshire Dives/Dyves.

Many Dives seem to be back and forth from Australia and Canada and I have found relatives all over the world. The address Tony gave me for the Australian BDM is such a great help and I can now verify some of the details given to me from other researchers.

I know numbers don't mean much, but my tree of 170 that I started with in June, of immediate family has exploded, with several hours of research each day, to 5000. Each person having as much of their life in detail as I can find, births, marriages, deaths, travel records, military records, wills, etc. But I have been lucky in that many branches of my ancestry have been well researched for many years by distant relatives and in many cases I've only had to verify others research with my own. Now I've taken on a whole load of new research which is developing into a kind of One Name Study! Which was not at all intentional considering 6 or 7 months ago I didn't know anything beyond my great grandparents!!

Thank you again for all the help I have been given. I have a lot more research ahead and am very grateful to all those who answer my cries for help! You are very kind and generous people.

it just seems to be my lucky day for finding information .................... and Karen's!!

I've probably found far more than she wants ..... and not found too much of what she did (the Australian emigration for example!!).

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Nov 2008 01:41

Ancestry has Anthony's marriage to Mary

The image (which is upside down!) is stamped S Paul, Covent Garden ...... which is what the submitted entries on familysearch say. But the index on Pallot's on ancestry says Kingsdown, Kent

Name: Anth Dive
Comment: Kingsdown, Kent
Spouse: Mary Wells
Marriage Date: 1818
PARISH: S Paul

Ah, now I understand ............ it also says Kingsdown, Kent on the image, but I think it is referring to Anthony's place of residence

Now if I coauld only find a marriage to Harriet!!!

Thanks for looking, Tony.

I do remember, before my Ancestry subscription ran out, seeing an entry for a Mr P Dive travelling. I can't remember where to and when, but may be that's the entry I'm looking for... it's obviously been kept in the back of my mind for this occasion!
