I am intrigued by the alterations to the death cert -how did it happen that it was made out in the name of Gregory, styling her widow of frederick Gregory. Who was the original informant? And who is the Lucy Kaye involved in the Statutory declaration?
There is a Lucy Kaye in the Medical Directories for the 1950s living in Yorkshire (Haxby) in 1951 -was she the Doctor who signed the cert?
Haveyou acopy of this cert AND the declaration -what does the latter actually say -some evidence surely had to be produced to effect the alteration of a legal document. And you as a granddaughter aresurely entitled to see it

Hi Jeanne- only a bit of info- if you don't already know- that the original Emmerdale village was filmed in Esholt. It used to be a popular place for the coach trips before the set was relocated.-JLe

I visited Esholt in 1999. Saw The Woolpack and the post office.

I used to enjoy watching the program but sadly as all the soaps its taken over by characters who reflect the decline in todays lifestyle.

For info
Jeanne has sent me the actual death registration for Louise in 1927 from which it is clear that the ORIGINAL cert described her as wife of Frederick Hogarth the correction made 25/6/1927 makes it clear that she died as the widow of Frederick Gregory (soldier) and Frederick Hogarth is amended to merely "Occupier"
So no need to waste any more time looking for a marriage that
never took place.
Doesnt help with Fred's origins -I suspect that there was still a wife living when he took up with Louisa

Gillian thank you for your help in clarifying the copy of the death certificate.
At least my search for a marriage can come to an end.
Though I still need to find Frederick Hogarth who ever he was he is still my grandfather.

once again thank you everyone out there.

Maybe if I found a census around 1924 I may be able to see where my mother was living that year How much longer will I have to wait? I hope I am still around. Lol

The only census due to be released in our lifetime is 1921, which MIGHT be ready to view in 2022

1931 was destroyed, and there was no census in 1941.

However, the 1939 register has now been made available on Findmypast and Ancestry, but that won't help you

Electoral Rolls are the only documents which could be of use to you.

They will be at the nearest main library to the place of abode, and searchable only by address.

Were all the children adopted together, or were they separated?
From what you say, it sounds as if they all kept their birth forenames.

As Shirley has asked already, did they keep the surname Hogarth?

You mentioned a possible remarriage for Frederick, to an Alice Baker, after 1927.

I can't see any such marriage, and the only Hogarth/Baker birth I can see after 1927 is one in Surrey in 1945, and that one is accounted for by a Hogarth/Baker marriage in Surrey in 1943 - but not Frederick and Alice.

Where did you find the marriage, please?
